US, Egypt, Qatar Urge Israel and Hamas to Resume Ceasefire

US, Egypt, and Qatar call on Israel, and Hamas to resume work The US, Egypt and Qatar have issued a joint statement calling on Israel and Hamas to resume the ceasefire and release the hostages.

The statement said the three countries had reached a “framework agreement” in which “only the details of implementation remain to be worked out.”

Israel said it was sending negotiators to the territories. They were tentatively scheduled for August 15 in Doha or Cairo. Hamas has not yet provided any information.

The move comes as an attempt to stop the regional recession from spiraling out of control. Following the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Iran has offered to take revenge on Israel. However, Israel has not directly commented on the incident.

Joint statement

In joint statements, the three countries invited Israel and Hamas to resume the international agreement on August 15. This requires “closing all key gaps and beginning the conclusion of an agreement without delay”. “As mediators, if necessary, we present final transition proposals that address implementation issues in a way that meets the expectations of all parties,” the statement said.

Statement by supporters of US President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

At the same time, it is said that the framework agreement is based on “principles”. This was stated by President Joe Biden on May 31. The main principles of this agreement provide for a full extension of the fire and the release of several hostages. The UN Security Council approved this statement.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Thursday evening that he spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to inform him of changes in US forces in the region and “reinforce my unwavering support for the defense of Israel.”

“I also listened to the agreement to continue the fire in Gaza, which frees the hostages,” he said.

Despite the agreement, the goal of continuing the fire and freeing the hostages has not yet been achieved.
Hamas insists on continuing the fire, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the conflict can only end with the destruction of Hamas.

Israel-Gaza tensions

Israel bombed the Gaza Strip on Thursday. The Hamas-run Green Defense Forces said they had targeted EU schools, killing more than 18 people. The Israeli military said it had targeted Hamas command centers.

The talks could be a stalemate. This is because Hamas wants to elect Yahya Sinwar as its new leader, replacing Haniyeh.

He is considered responsible by Israel for planning the attack which is expected to take place on October 7. He is considered one of the most extreme figures in the groups.

It was also reported that, amid the threat of an attack from Iran or its allies, the Israeli security cabinet held a meeting in an underground bunker on Thursday instead of its usual meeting place.

This was reported by Israeli Channel 13.
