Celine Dion Speaks Out Against Trump Rally Music Use

Celine Dion is against using her music. She’s not the first artist to reject the Trump campaign’s use of her music.

Celine Dion’s management team and record label Sony Music Canada said using her worldwide hit “My Heart Will Go On” at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Montana on Friday was “unauthorized.”

Video of Dion performing the 1997 song was broadcast at Trump and J.D. Vance’s rally in Bozeman, Montana, on Friday night. The statement said it became aware on Saturday of the Republican campaign’s use of “video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion” performing the song.

The Trump campaign has not responded to the statement.

My Heart Will Go On is one of five-time Grammy winner Dion’s best-known songs.

“This use is in no way authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” the statement read. “…Really, THIS song?”

This song became a hit thanks to the popular 1997 film Titanic. This song has become a symbol of love.

Celine Dion is first?

Dion is not the first artist to reject the Trump campaign’s use of their music.

The same thing happened in 2016. The Trump campaign used “Start Me Up” at a Rolling Stones rally. They soon released a statement saying they never permitted it to be used and demanded “all uses cease immediately.”

The same thing happened in 2018. Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music” was played.

“My people and I would never be at or near one of these tragic rallies,” the musician said at the time.

And there are many such cases: Neil Young, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Everlast (former House of Pain frontman)? Even British singer Adele has criticized Trump for using their tunes at rallies over the years.
